I was reading in the stag do thread earlier and there was a mention of a massage parlour (Startford, or something like that).

Interested about these (for research, not for pleasure I must add!!) I did a search and the first one that came up was one in Manchester called Sandy's Superstars.

Anyhow, it seems quite obvious that it's where blokes go for full on sex, however being illigal, how do they get away with it?

Why have they not been shut down? Do the police just turn a blind eye?

Surely the men that go there could also be arrested?

I just don't get how they can stay open - if someone opened a smoking cafe for drugs i'm sure these would get shut down pretty fast - what is the difference?

i guess better for the women to be in there than on the street?

Actually, not sure about the massage parlour, but in worthing shortly after i moved away, a cafe opened. It was the first dam style cafe selling canabis in the country. Apparently is stayed open for months with the occaisional raid by the police, but was largely left alone for most of time. It didnt hide what it was and was only apparently closed down when some local people protested about it remaining open (forcing action) so i'm told!

Shame of it is though that having a real massage is a really nice experience and something that more people should be able to enjoy without being put off by what we see advertised a 'massage parlours'.

My wife suffers from back problems and as part of the therapy needs it massaged. I went along on a course, reluctantly as I thought it all a load of new age nonsense, and found myself really impressed by it. During one of my rare periods of using a gym the instructor said that he benefited immensely from getting a massage and it helped him recover from injury and i reckon massage could help a lot more people but we are all so prejediced against it due to the various knocking shops advertising themselves as such.

Best to wait for 'Grey Ghost' to log in...I believe he may have some experience in this field.

Agreed, I have only ever had a "proper" massage, and I felt very good afterwards.

Mat, maybe you should consider a "rub'n'tug", it might help you relax and deal with some of your anger issues.

An ex-colleague of mine was a habitual user of such establishments, so I could name you a good few in the South Croydon / Purley area.

LOL.

The massage technique was something called 'Shiatsu' and it was a really nice experience.

You mean the one round the corner from the Portmanor?

I agree with Mat on this. A few years ago I started going for massages at the gym as my back muscles were tightening up. I have never felt so relaxed as during that time. I ended up with far fewer muscle pains as well when exercising.

As for the 'other' type there's one near the bus stop at work. It's interesting to watch how different people approach it. A few walk straight in, others almost run in and some will amble slowly past, check to see that no-one is watching and then suddenly jump into the doorway. Local gossip has it that when a large truck was once parked out the front and hiding the entrance all day their trade doubled.

I agree.

But I think the problem lies as much with the Sniggering NOTW generation as with massage parlours.

In singapore there are massage parlours along most high streets, to me they like very much like hairdressers shops in apperance. Many of them do face/neck massage and foot massage which people i work with go to during there lunch break.

There's a place on The Kings Road in Worlds End, Chelsea by some traffic lights that I'm convinced is a knocking shop from the number of blokes I've seen going in. I guess the police follow a tolerance policy and, as others have suggested, in many ways it's much better for this sort of thing to be off the street where the law enforcement guys can keep an eye on it. However, I've often sat waiting at the traffic lights wondering what would happen if someone with real muscular ailments wandered in to try and have a genuine massage.

What you ommitted to mention old chap, is the fact you met your wife at the Stratford Sauna, where after being mightily impressed by her speciality..' the one handed korean massage' you offered to set her up in business in a more respectable envoironment...unfortunately, you chose Essex.

Go on, give into your curiosity, and don't forget to post your findings on here.

To save you further research "The Westminster Sauna" ( in Westminster Bridge Road ) is now closed. I have been told from a relative of one of the owners, that it definitely did "special services" and have often wondered how many MPs popped in there for some relief after a hard day's debating.

A good massage is very relaxing and hard to beat. At the risk of ridicule I would also suggest a facial (with head massage) to anyone who hasnt had one before.

When in Portugal I booked a sports massage to follow a golf lesson. The guy giving the golf lesson kept telling me that I wasn't following through properly. went for the massage and after a little probing she found a very tender spot under my shoulder blade and promptly told me I wasn't following through properly! They know thier stuff these proper massage people.
